Amazing Algarve

The last time I went to Portugal I was 13 years old, so when Paul decided to take the kids this year, I was super excited to go as I’d heard lots of lovely things about the food and culture. We booked to stay at the VidaMar Villas in Albuferia which was a stunning two bedroom villa with our own private pool.

After a two and a half hour flight we touched down in Lagos, but the long transfer to our hotel was so tough with a teething baby and newly potty trained toddler! When we finally arrived at our villa we went straight to bed to catch up on sleep, as I was super exhausted by the whole day. Its so different with children in tow. You’re constantly having to be on the ball 24/7. The next day we ventured around the complex, to check out the kids clubs, pool areas, restaurants and hotel facilities.

With the kids just been outside the age bracket for the kids clubs, we decided to keep them with us and hired a minibus so that we could explore Portugal as a family. We headed to the waterpark for an afternoon of baby splash and wet slides and enjoyed a sushi dinner at the Japanese restaurant at the hotel. In April the evenings are chilly so eveningwear switched from strapless dresses to maxis and pashminas.

My style was so different this time around, no heels, mostly flats and wedges for pushing the buggies, kaftans and sequinned midi dresses to add a bit on nightime glamour. It wasnt really the type of holiday where your out in uber cool restaurants, staying out until the early hours, the babies were tucked up  in bed my 9pm every night and we were hitting the sack at 10pm!

We spent 7 days catching up with some friends from back home who joined us on the holiday, so the kids has so much fun playing in the pools during the day, and enjoying cosy family dinners in the evening. With four adults and six children between us, it was a pretty exhausting but enjoyable holiday. The kids loved it, but us adults needed a holiday when we got back to the UK!

Portugal is a lovely country but I would most definitely make sure the children are booked into baby creche and kids clubs during the day. Adult time just to sip a cocktail in peace, read a book, or simply sit in the sun for a few hours a day is something I will not ever take for granted, and is a must for our trip later on in the year!

A week later at home, I am finally back into my routine, planning our next trip…to Las Vegas and LA in May…adults only!
