The Mere Golf Resort and Spa is situated in the heart of leafy Knutsford in Cheshire alongside Lake Mere, and I was delighted to finally get to visit the hotel for an overnight stay, dinner and a spa day with the mister. I had been wanting to stay at this venue for some time, so it was a real treat and perfectly timed to visit during a busy January at work.
The hotel is fairly new, and boasts 81 contemporary rooms. The décor has traditional oak wood furnishing, juxtaposed with contemporary white sofas and bathrooms. My favourite feature was the heated bathroom floors, perfect after taking a long hot bath. We checked in on a rainy January Saturday afternoon and decided to head straight to the Clubhouse bar and restaurant for afternoon tea; which included a selection of sandwich fingers, miniature cakes, macaroons and pastries. After a long week project managing Paul’s new office move from Deansgate Locks to No 66 Deansgate and working on a building site for the past 4 weeks, we were both ready for a day of complete relaxation and catching up with each other.
Afternoon tea turned into a lazy afternoon in the spa which offered a fabulous choice of different steam rooms, saunas, Jacuzzis and an infinity swimming pool. After taking advantage of dipping in and out of the pool, we had dinner reservations booked in the hotel’s 2 AA rosette awarding winning restaurant Browns, so it was a quick change into something sophisticated to have pre dinner drinks. I wore a white chiffon playsuit, accessorised with black Louboutin heels, Hermes belt and a Jimmy Choo clutch bag.
We arrived at Browns and I immediately started to take in the décor and ambience. I am currently designing a bar area on the first floor of Paul’s new office, so I was making note of colour palettes and tones that could work onsite too! The bar showcased dark mahogany wood furnishings with soft purple fabric tones which gave the atmosphere a cosy and romantic ambience. I dined on scallops for starters (£14) beef fillet steak which came with a portion of chunky chips, tomato and a Portobello mushroom (£28) and a selection of greens (£6). At £48 for two courses excluding wine, was a little on the pricey side, but I skipped dessert to keep my meal nice and light, as we were due to head out to the new Picollino’s in Alderley Edge to meet our lovely friends and stars of The Real Housewives of Cheshire, Dawn Ward, Leanne Brown and their agent from Can Associates, Claire Powell.
We arrived at the super busy venue and taken through the restaurant to meet our guests. The whole place was bustling, people dining, drinking and posing, well it is Cheshire after all! I remember when the venue used to be Brasingamans and then a few years later, Panacea, so it was inevitable that the crowd would flock to this people watching destination. The place was so busy the staff’s attentiveness was lacking which somewhat could have ruined the whole experience. My motto is, its all about who you’re with, not where you go, and me and the ladies had a great laugh with the hubbies. After a reasonably early night, well…..1.30am we were back at the hotel and cuddled up in bed. The next morning I felt fresh enough to hit the gym and make one more visit to the spa for a de-dress massage before checking out and heading home to our little boy.
The weekend is a great experience for couples looking for down time away from work and children. Its the ultimate pampering weekend for groups of girls looking for relaxation and gentlemen to play a round of golf on the stunning 18 hole golfing green. I will most definitely be visiting again for another weekend getaway!
