The Glow

I have become fascinated with contouring and highlighting over the past few months, and with having the accessibility to social media forums and You Tube channels, it’s great to see different techniques for different skin types. Most skin types can be hard to contour, so using the perfect highlighter will automatically give you a natural, sun-kissed summer look. I have tried and tested a few myself, some that I use on daily basis and some I use for a more dramatic chiseled evening look. Here are some of my top tips to get that natural summer glow using the perfect highlighter:

Tool Kit

Invest in high quality make up brushes and sponges to make sure you give yourself the most even coverage you can. Your tools are your craft in making sure you achieve the best end result. There is not point buying top quality make up and then applying it with mediocre brushes. I use the MAC 195 concealer brush (£12.00) to dot and mark out the highlighted areas of my face, and blend with a 190 foundation brush (£27.00). Other products that are great for application and getting an even coverage is the teardrop beauty blender (£16.00), which needs to be soaked in warm water so its damp and then used to blend in.

The Perfect Match

I started off at the MAC Cosmetic counter who kindly gave me a few samples pots of the NW shade’s to try at home. Finding the colour perfect match can be challenging, depending on how you apply the product and the lighting you use, so always ask to try before you buy! Once I got my perfect shade for my skin colour, Pro Longwear concealer NW40, (£15.99) which is only one shade up from my usual foundation, it gave me a subtle yet bright appearance instantly. These concealers are light, easy to apply, and last all day. They come in a small tube, so they are nice and conpact to pop into your make up bag. Some other great brands to try are Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator, (£28.00) and Nars Illuminator, (£23.00)

Soul Glow

Once you’ve achieved the perfect base, add a little shimmer to vamp up the glow. Whether its a blusher, cream or stick, apply your highlighter to the areas of your face below; the middle forehead, bridge of the nose, top of the cheekbones, cupids bow and middle of the chin.

I tend to use MAC Peachtwist Sheertone Shimmer blusher (£18.00) on the apples of my cheeks, and Barry M Radiant Rod (£3.99) on the top on my cheeks for added glow. I also the Radiant Rod on my browbone to create a browlift.

Set Off

Once all your make up is fully applied, add a touch of translucent powder with a large face brush and set with make up setting spray to stop your make up from sliding. Over the upcoming summer months, keep your make up fresh, natural and shimmery for the ultimate holiday sun kissed look
